MOON miscanthus x giganteus
The MOON plate reinterprets a familiar object through subtle shifts in geometry.
Two internal curves define its orientation: one side lifts slightly while the other allows food to rest freely at an angle. This creates a natural separation of elements and encourages interaction between dish and user.
The MOON project includes several variations: among others, muscanthus x giganteus, porcelain, earthenware, locally harvested cherry wood, and, in this case, ceramic. As a designer, I aim not to define the final form, but rather to stimulate the making process. In this way, a design evolves through its maker.
The experimential material used in this one-off piece is elephant grass, miscanthus x giganteus. A green solution for an instant plate made from ingredients that grow locally and producable with the same injection moulds as to be used with plastics, but here on lower temperature.
