bowl

asymmetric piece by symmetric woodturning 2020

Previously, solid wooden planks and two wedges were sawn, glued together, turned, and then shaped under the edge to form the final piece. I replaced the typical flat base beneath a bowl or dish with an inward extension. This asymmetrically positioned solid surface now gives the piece a sense of direction: due to its weight, the bowl naturally tilts to present its contents toward the user.
